Springing into wellness

Did you know stress and hairloss are connected? They totally are! While we don’t have control over what happens in our lives, we can control how we take care of ourselves before it gets out of hand. I like to think of wellness as a few things: our relationships with others, our relationship with oursleves (mental health), spiritual health, physical health (including food), financial health, career wellness, and environmental wellness. Being a huge health/wellness nerd myself, I love learning about each of these wellness cornerstones and working to improve each one in an attempt to reach a “balance”.

What does this have to do with hair?

When we have compounded stressors in one of these wellness cornerstones, our bodies want to preserve what nutrients we’re putting in, the amount of rest we get, and our mental state and throw it all into survival mode. This creates an environment where our hair isn’t getting the nutrients it needs to thrive and this can cause it to shed.

Here’s a few of my favorite ways to reach a calm even in the chaos of life!

  • Gratitude journal: I like to reflect on the day before and write out 3 things that happened or I thought of that I’m grateful for.

  • Drink water: This is the perfect excuse to get that pretty monochromatic insulated water cup you’ve been eyeballing. Fill her up and drink her down!

  • Move: Even if it’s for 30 min a day, take a lap around the neighborhood, speed clean the house, join a workout class, etc. The list goes on!

  • Plan dates with those you love: Life is too short to be stuck in the mundane patterns of work/eat/sleep. A date could even be as small as a grocery store trip to pick out something for you and whomever you’re on a date with (relative, friend, or significant other) to do.

  • Learn something new: lifelong learning is always fun!

  • Stretch: My favorite stretching program can be found here: https://pliability.com/targets/romwod While this particular program is marketed towards CrossFit athletes, anyone can do this! There are movement options if you’re not totally flexible! I loved doing this before bedtime to release all pent-up tightness in my body and relax. These videos range from 12 min - an hour depending on what your goal is!

  • Good food: Quality-sourced food is also key!

This season of stress in your life is only temporary! Hair loss won’t be a forever thing. These wellness tips can help to naturally lower your stress hormones and allow your body to be more in a balanced state. I have such a huge place for wellness in my heart - I even studied it in college! If you want more specific wellness goals set for you, ask during your hair day!

Love you, mean it!!
