How to take care of hair extensions

When you come in for your free in-person consult, we go over all the ins and outs of how to best take care of your hair extensions so they can last 12+ months! I’d love to share with you my secrets —

Daily

  1. Brush/ use hair serum on your hair both before you start your day and before going to bed to keep your hair soft, manageable, and tangle-free.

  2. Braid your hair before going to sleep to protect against crazy bedhead, unnecessary tugging/pulling, and the ability to wake up with beach wave-y hair without having to use heat!

  3. A silk pillowcase to help with frizz.

Weekly

  1. When washing hair, separate between your natural and hair extensions (don’t worry, I’ll show you how on install day!) to get a deep clean.

  2. Use k18 after washing, waiting 4 min before going in with other products.

  3. I like to wait an hour before blow drying so I’m not having to hang out with my blowdryer, you’ll definitely want to wait at least 30 min before going into heat style your hair to mitigate heat tool use on them! You never want to go to bed with wet hair as this can cause extreme matting and tangling.

  4. I suggest washing hair every 5 days!

Products I personally like to use and where to get them

  • K18 for after the shower | You can get this at Sephora OR by supporting your local salon by contacting me for an in-salon pickup order

  • Goldie Locks: Shampoo, conditioner, leave-in, serum, smoothing cream, and blow-dry primer | You can get those here online or by contacting me for a pick-up order at your next hair day. I require my hair extension guests to use Goldie Locks as part of their hair extension journey with me. Goldie Locks has been created by Invisible Beaded Extensions as an extension of their brand!

  • Vented wet brush | Amazon

  • Aqua Bliss Shower Filter | Amazon

  • Silk pillowcase | Target

In salon maintenance

This will greatly depend on your natural hair’s density and your hair goals! Potentially you could be getting your extensions moved up 4-10 weeks in-between. Every other time you come in, I like to re-root and glaze your hair extensions so they look forever new! There will also be a point where we will have to trim your hair extensions to keep them healthy, but this won’t be every time.

That’s it, folks! Taking care of your hair extensions truly is super easy. If you’re in the market to start your hair extension journey, head to my contact page to reach out! I cannot wait to have you in my chair!
